7-Day Yoga & Culture Retreat in Munnar & Fort Kochi for Balance & Reset

7 Days Kochi, Kerala, India Residential Program English, Malayalam, Hindi
Program Overview

A 7-day yoga and culture retreat across Munnar's tea hills and Fort Kochi's coast, for balance, reset and reconnection.

Samya is a 7-day yoga, culture and nature retreat set across two of Kerala's most distinct landscapes: four days in the misty tea-garden hills of Munnar in the Western Ghats, and three days on the slow-living coastal shores of Fort Kochi. Most retreats ask you to sit still and go inward. Samya asks you to move through the world and find yourself along the way. In Munnar you go deep into daily yoga, pranayama, meditation and physical practice, including a traditional Kalaripayattu experience. In Fort Kochi you integrate through heritage walks, a Kathakali evening and the particular stillness of being near the sea. Ayurvedic bodywork, a farm visit, specialised workshops, a Western Ghats river swim and cultural performances are woven through the week. Groups are kept intentionally small, a maximum of 10 participants, so guides Achu and Nithin, both Kerala-born with a decade of experience, know your name, your practice and your pace. Samya means balance in Sanskrit. By Day 7, participants consistently describe feeling it as a lived, physical experience, not just an idea. Suitable for all levels.

02
Signature Experience

Kalaripayattu Experience.

A guided visit to a traditional Kalari centre for an introduction to Kalaripayattu, one of the world's oldest martial art forms, with a demonstration by a practising Kalari master and optional participation. A grounding look at the physical roots of yoga.

03

An evening of Kerala's classical dance-drama in Fort Kochi, introduced with cultural context beforehand so it lands as a living heritage encounter rather than a show.

Nithin Xavier

Cultural Immersion & Retreat Design Lead
Nithin was born into Kerala's living wellness traditions and has spent a decade translating that inheritance into retreat experiences that are culturally authentic rather than curated for show. His role sits at the intersection of yoga facilitation, local knowledge and cultural storytelling: he is the reason the Kalaripayattu visit feels like an encounter with something alive, and the Kathakali evening lands as more than entertainment. Alongside Achu, he co-designs every Samya itinerary around one question: what does this particular group, in this particular landscape, most need to experience to genuinely shift.

I had done yoga classes for years, but never anything like this. The Kalaripayattu experience on Day 3 genuinely moved me. Watching something that ancient and alive, I understood for the first time what yoga was before it became a class. Achu and Nithin do not run a retreat, they share their home.

The shift from Munnar to Fort Kochi halfway through the week is genius. By Day 4 I was deeply rested from the mountains. Fort Kochi opened me back up, the tuk-tuk tour, the Kathakali, the sunset at the beach. I returned home having genuinely changed how I move through my days.

Where You’ll Be

Program Location
Kochi, Kerala, India
Samya moves across two of Kerala's most distinct landscapes. Munnar sits in the Western Ghats at around 1,600 metres, offering cool mountain air, tea-garden trails, misty mornings and a quiet that settles in quickly. Fort Kochi brings a slower coastal rhythm: colonial-era streets, Chinese fishing nets at sunset and the Arabian Sea. Together they form a complete arc, depth in the mountains and integration by the water. The Munnar stay places you close to tea estates, forest walks and a Western Ghats riverside. The Fort Kochi stay places you within reach of heritage streets, spice markets and the waterfront.
